Bay Area/Nor Cal Community Outreach Specialist

ABOUT CARE:

As part of his first set of initiatives upon his appointment in 2021, AG Bonta established the Office of CARE in July 2021 to increase engagement and build trusted relationships with all communities, including those who have been historically marginalized and underrepresented. In the past two years, the CARE team has initiated a variety of activities aimed at ensuring inclusion of diverse perspectives in DOJ’s work. We’ve led coordination of stakeholder meetings on topics including reproductive rights, tenant protections, environmental justice, hate crimes and domestic violence. Additionally, we’ve launched a virtual presentation series to share information about DOJ programs and resources.

ROLE OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH SPECIALIST:

The Specialist is responsible for identifying, establishing and cultivating cooperative relationships with community based programs, organizations, and community leaders, with a special focus on historically underrepresented stakeholders (including communities of color and faith-based communities) to strategically execute outreach initiatives. The Specialist will develop public education, resources, and awareness campaigns in conjunction with community organizations and leaders to support Attorney General initiatives and priorities, as well as participate in community events and meetings. They will provide opportunities for diverse voices to shape the Department’s activities. Regular travel within a specified geographic region in California required, with potential for occasional travel to outside regions.

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
